Summer in Warrnambool

We have spent quite a lot of time in Warrmabool over the years, we often call it our second home.

Shipwreck Bay is a seasonal park, which operates during peak times over summer, the Labour Day long weekend and Easter. Located 500m south-west of Surfside Holiday Park

We spent 6 nights here from 2nd January - 8th January 2019
Section 19, Site 12
$60 per night

Granny, Pa, Aunty Madi, Uncle Bruce, Mikaylah, Aleiyah & Oliver also stayed with us for 4 nights

Ship Wreck Bay is right on the beach so most of our time was spent there

While the men played twilight golf we took the kids for a walk down to Surfside for a movie night

Friends that were camping in Port Fairy came to visit was on the Friday night, we were to the big market at Lake Pertobe followed by some fun at the carnival

We then spent Sunday  visiting them in Port Fairy. We watched the cannon go off at Battery Hill

Monday morning we went to Thunder Point and followed the track around to Shelly Beach

A Quick Trip to Warrnambool

Friday 14th December 2018 we went on a quick trip to Warrnambool with friends to watch the speedway. We didn't leave Geelong until after work so didn't arrive until late and had to leave first thing Sunday morning for a birthday party.

We stayed at Surfside Holiday Park, Pertobe Road Warrnambool
$60 per night per site

Saturday morning we went for a walk from Surside to Shipwreck Bay Holiday PArk to check out the site we would be staying in over the summer holidays on the way back we stopped in at Little Creatures for a drink on the balcony

The afternoon brought a heavy down pour of rain, creating large puddles in the park, kids were using boggie boards to slide through the water & the speed humps were longer viable as they were under water. It only lasted about 10 minutes and cleared up just as quickly as it came

We were still able to go to speedway that night

Shake Down

The first time we tried out our caravan, otherwise known as a "shake down" was 30th November 2018.

We stayed in the small Victorian country town of Forest at the Wonkey Stables Holiday Park

$139 for 4 night - 2 adults 1 child

Now we have been to visit this park during the Easter Long Weekend, it was jam packed & crowded (as most places are at that time of the year) and i decided then that this was not a park I would camp at. However I was convinced to give it a go and I'm glad I did, being the off season there were few there, it was quite & peaceful with plenty of room.

Setting up

                       The Interior

Looking down towards the Queen bed end
We have used a good quality mattress topper and the bed is relatively comfortable

Showing the wardrobe, pull out pantry & stove top

Table & double bed end, As the kids are still little we have slept them the "wrong way" which allows them more space

Forest

Saturday stared with a caravan sing-a-long

A walk to the Forrest Brewery for the "soup of the day"

A game of bocce & charades followed by a visit from family for the afternoon

Lake Elizabeth

Located just a 10-minute drive from Forrest, Lake Elizabeth is said to be the jewel of the Otways. The lake, its tranquil surroundings and picturesque walking tracks and hiking trails are beautiful. A 20 minute scenic walk from the car park takes you to the lake and the jetty, which is what we did.

Stevenson Falls

Stevenson Falls is located about 20 minutes drive from the caravan park at the end of a gravel road. We did the short walk from the day picnic area which is located over the second bridge. The is an easy walk, about 500m which takes you to the viewing flat form for the falls. We took a stroller, there was a small section of rocks that required some help to get over but for the most part is was suitable.
