Having celebrated Christmas with both our families early this year we decided to have Christmas Morning at home and then head down to Port Fairy. We arrived at approx 3pm and set up camp and then had Christmas dinner camping style
Boxing Day was a relaxing day, with my Brother and some of our friends arriving and setting up their camps, we just settled in and caught up with everyone. The day was very windy with a lot of peoples gazebos breaking and even someone's whole awning snapping off.
On the Friday we went to Yambuk which is a tiny town located about 20km from Port Fairy. On the way there we stopped at the Crags Coastal reserve.
which has a lookout which provides views of the rocky, calcarenite cliffs and the volcanic Lady Julia Percy (Deen Maar) Island
There was a monument there which was donated by Michael & Cheryl Steel, with Michaels mums name also being Cheryle!
We did the Yambuk Beach and Lake Walk which starts as a sandy track following the lake shores before meeting the boardwalk up to the lookout, or continue along the beach. First we went to the lookout
and then decided to head back to where we started along the beach to make it like a loop
Then back to camp for drinks with friends
When the kids convince someone to give them icypoles at bed time they then needed to run the sugar off with a late night oval run
On the Saturday it rained quite a bit in the morning so we headed into Warrnambool with our friends had went to Rafferty's for lunch which has a large indoor playground
Sunday was golf day and all the dads headed off for a round of golf and lunch at the pub. we just hung around the caravan park in the morning and Nash rode his scooter while I caught up on some work
and we returned home with a tired little Nash
That night there was a giant slip and slide set up at the caravan park and some water activities for the kids
Port Fairy have a program of events that are held around the town for people to enjoy
On Monday (30th) there was a bike decorating event in town on the green. I took Nash & Kayleigh into town to decorate their bikes and Mason stayed at the caravan park with Uncle Brandon. At the bike decorating there was lots of streamers, ribbons, coloured material and all sorts of things to use to decorate the kids bikes and the kids have the option to ride their bikes in the parade if they would like to.
After lunch our friends the Draytons who also stay in Port Fairy at a different
caravan park came to visit for the afternoon
caravan park came to visit for the afternoon
We had dinner with our the Sherwells at their caravan
Tuesday was New Years Eve day. We started the day off with a Visit to Pea soup, which is a shallow beach inlet with no sea weed and it was beautiful
In the afternoon it was the ladies turn to head out to the Oak & Anchor for cocktails and some live music. Early in the evening the Dads and kids heading into town and met us for the street parade.
Kids were super tired on New Years Day from the late night, we went to the Canon demonstration at Battery Hill, with the firing at noon.
We had a rest in the afternoon and then I headed off to speedway with Mason & Nash. Kayleigh was very tired and needed an early night so she stayed home with Dad for a rest. Turns out Nash was very tired too and fell asleep in the car.
We had a days cross over with our Warrnambool Site meaning we could either stay in Port Fairy until Friday the 3rd or move to Warrnambool from the 2nd. We were very undecided and eventually decided to do a lot of our pack/ cleaning / washing in port fairy on the 2nd and move first thing in the morning on the 3rd. The kids played all day while we pottered around washing & packing up. We finished off the day with an adults and kids cricket match
We will be back next year
