Day Trip to Daylesford

 A Day out in Daylesford

Saturday 5th November 2022

After we had to cancel our Melbourne Cup long weekend away because Mason & I were sick and the weather forecast was terrible we were itching to get away and do something, so after lots of Heavy rain and flooding we decided to go to Daylesford and check out some water falls

Our first stop was Trenthan Falls

Trentham Falls is located in the small town of Trentham about 20mins drive out of Daylesford. It is one of the lonest single drop waterfalls in Victoria & is around 32 metres. There is an easy walk from the car park with a few steps to a viewing platform

On the way into Daylesford we passed the sign for the

Lost Children's Monument.

I had read the story about 3 young boys William Graham 6.5 years, Thomas Graham, 4 years and Alfred Burman, 5 years. They wandered off in search of adventure one Sunday morning and never returned home. The whole town searched for them in horrible weather for 25 days and could find no sign of them. One day a dog returned home with a childs boot in its mouth & after searching that area the remains of the children were found in a hollow tree.

On the side of the road is a small memorial and message tree and a place where people leave small childrens toys

I have since found out there is a memorial park and a large monument at the Daylesford cemetery which would also be interesting to see.

Next stop was the Daylesford Lake

We cooked some sausages on our burner and the kids had a play in the playground

Then we went for a walk around the Lake. The walk is 2.79km and took under 1 hour. It is a well formed path and boardwalks

off to the side there is a hill down to some mineral springs but some of the area is blocked off due to damage from the recent floods

Back onto the main path

We then passed Wombat Flat mineral springs, the water tasted a bit better here compared to the last springs

and then onto the boardwalk before arriving back at the car park

After our long walk we went in search of coffee & scones, after googling best scones in Daylesford we were lead to the Botanic Gardens

However there were no scones to be found in the cafe

So we had a look around the gardens near the car park but didn't go too far

There is a memorial tower with 77 steps offering views over Daylesford

We continued our google search for scones and went sent down the road to the Mill Markets, we found scones (although not very good), Coffees & ice creams

Last stop was Sailors Falls, these falls are located just outside Daylesford and are basically on the roadside. If you wish you can walk down the stairs to the lower viewing area of the falls, personally I thing the view from higher up was better

There is a short walk from the base of the falls passing some mineral springs and doing a loop back but unfortunately the recent floods have damaged the bridge and the walk was closed so we will have to return to do that another time.

It was such a fun day out together and the kids once again proved they really do love walking when they were begging (&crying) for us to do more walking!
