The park is located right alongside the Steavenson river at the base of Lake Mountain, surrounded by mountain ranges and the state forest, but just a brief walk from the village centre of Marysville.
Our site was in the perfect location, located right across from the river with a beautiful outlook, the fire pits were on the river bank and we were very close to the children's playground, jumping pillow & amenities block.
In February 2009 Marysville was completely wiped out by the Black Saturday Bushfires. These bush fires are considered the worst in Australias history with 173 lives lost & 414 injured, hundreds of homes destroyed & land burnt.

The town has rebuilt & now we visit 10 years later ....
We didn't arrive until later on Friday night, but after dinner we went for a walk to
Steavenson Falls
is located approx 5km out of Marysville.
These falls are one of the tallest in Victoria, with 5 cascades, a total descent of 122 metres, the last having a clear drop of 21 metres.
The falls are floodlit from dusk until 11pm each night making for a unique experience.

On Saturday we completed the
The track begins by walking through a rain forest area with tall ferns
Then passes through large old Mountain Ash along the way there is a tree known as the elephant tree which has a trunk measuring 12.9 metres & looks like the foot of an elephant!
A little further along and we got to the Big Tree, standing at 87.84m high however it once measured 92m but a storm snapped the top off in 1959
We then came to the Cora-Lynn falls car park where we crossed the road and continued walking & crossed the bridge
The path comes to a junction where you can continue on the path or head right for 100 metres to Cora-Lynn Falls. You can view the falls from above or head down to the viewing platform below
The track then leads to Cumberland Falls, you cant really see these falls but you can hear them. Along this part of the track there are some great views
The track begins to head up small hills before it crosses the road again and back to the Cambarville Car Park.
This is one of my favourite walks we have done so far, there was so much to see & it didn't feel like it was 4km long, even Mason walked the whole way without complaining!
As a side trip from the Cambarville Picnic area, it the old town of Cambarville, it is a short walk/drive up from the car park. There isnt much left of the town, just a few remnants but there is lots of information boards about what used to be there and it is quite interesting a worth a look.

These gardens along with Brunos home were also wiped out in the bush fires but have been lovingly restored and recreated by Bruno
The gardens are amazing, and full of unusual quirky sculptures. It was interesting to see the photos of the garden before and straight after the bush fires in front of the restored sculptures
It was only $10 entry and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit
We had lunch at Marysville Bakery
and then visited the information centre, inside the building is the Phoenix Museum. This museum show stories & videos from the Black Saturday bush fires and also highlights what can be achieved when people lose everything.
I really enjoyed our visit to Marysville, it would be my favourite place we have visited in our caravan so far & I can not wait to go back and explore some more.

Sunday
After bacon & eggs we headed into town to have a look around and visit the few shops.
We then made our way through Gallipolli Park, which underwent major redevelopment after the Black Saturday bushfires and now includes a state of the art childrens playground and reflective gardens

It was amazing to read peoples personal encounters of the fires and what came after.
On the way back to the camp site we called in to the Marysville & district Historical society, this was a house full of many displays highlighting over 150 years of history, some of the features included pioneer stories, sporting memorabilia, an art gallery, heritage rose garden as well as the bush fires
I really enjoyed our visit to Marysville, it would be my favourite place we have visited in our caravan so far & I can not wait to go back and explore some more.
